Manuel Fenandez y Gonzalez 7 (near Plaza santa Ana): One of Madrids long time institutions this bar is in the lively center of the city but allows a good deal of privacy either on the terrace or inside and downstairs.Decorated in a style that remains true to the bar´s 1940´s roots one can sample the atmosphere whilst sipping a hand made mojito or another beverage more to your liking. A somewhat noisy bar after midnight it is best to visit between 2200 and 2330

The Geographic Club
Located in Calle Alcala, 141, next to the shopping area and Metro Goya. This very large bar and restaurant (Spanish bar food) is decorated with Native art and photos from all over the world.Built around the National Geographic theme the downstairs bar / salon has large comfortable seating with low lighting and an intimate atmosphere. Generally a quiet and intimate bar but not so much so that others can overhear what you are saying. Open from midday until 0200.

Plaza Santa Ana For those who like to sup fine wines and sample elaborate tapas whilst watching the world go by this is the place!Either out front on the terrace in the heart of Plaza Santa Ana or indoors behind the full length clear glass windows the ambience is perfect for enjoying the rich flavour of the best in Spanish wine whilst in cozy surroundings.
Located in the center of Madrid´s nightlife area Vinoteca offers a touch of class when compared with other bars in the area. Visiting between 2200 and 0100 is ideal although it actually opens from midday onwards.

Los Gatos
Calle Jesus 2 A very busy very Spanish bar in the Huertas area this small and intimate bar contains everything from bycicles to matadores uniformes attached to the ceiling and walls.If your idea of a romantic bar is one that has all the character of Madrid for the last 30 years then this is it. You´ll feel as though you are in the real Spain instead of the center of Madrid as you try the various Tapas prepared as they have been since time began!
The typical patrons are both noisy and friendly and you´ll soon find yourselves in conversation with natives keen to invite you to try some of the local traditions. Be aware that ordering "raciones" instead of just accepting the free tapas can see the price creap up. "Tostas" (filled rolls) are the speciality and what to go for! Best time to visit is in the evening between 2200 and midnight.

Huertas 22 A personal fovourite and perhaps the best live jazz and blues bar in Madrid as well as being one of Madrids most romantic bars.Here you can easily while away hours sitting back and relaxing with a cocktail, fine whiskey or simply a soft drink whilst enjoying the subdued lighting and smooth sounds.
Very popular with those who know the bar and each week becoming more popular as people discover the live bands which change on a daily basis. Get here a little earlier than you would most others, 2130, to ensure a good table and sit back and let the best of Madrids nightlife wash over you. Open fronm 1600 until 0330 on weekends.
