Madrid fashion week allows you to see the latest and greatest creations from Spanish fashion houses and designers!
The 2007 event will be different from previous shows following the Madrid community governments decision to apply a BMI (Body mass index) to the models participating! With doctors on hand to ensure designers conform to the new rules the 12th and 18th of February 2007 are bound to be interesting!
Madrid fashion week incorperates two major events and a number of unofficial promotions and shows in some of Madrids boutiques. The two official events are:
- Pasarela Ciebeles - This catwalk show takes place in the gardens of one of Madrids famous landmarks, the
Parque El Buen Retiro.
Between the 12th and 16th of February an invitation only screening of the latest designs takes place to a backdrop of natural foliage and light.
- Ifema Fashion show - Held in the Ifema exhibition centre (close to the airport) on the 16th through to the 18th February this show and exibition offers the public the chance to view and even buy direct from some of Spains top designers. Tickets can be pre ordered for 15€ with on the the day prices being 30€.
Whilst these are the major events it is more than worthwhile visiting the up market "boutiques" in Calle Serano and Barrio Salamanca. Here top Spanish clothing designers offer their wares with prices to match!
Other Fashion shows
Madrid and indeed Spains fashion demands are not satisfied with the biannual Madrid fashion week. Two other very important dates in the Madrid fashion calendar are:
- Plural Fashion - Asian Fashion show
- International Nuptial & Occasional wear - An international clothing show for Wedding, Communion and special occasions.
The "Plural fashion" show takes place in the Ifema exhibition center twice annually with the 2007 dates being confirmed as May 24-26 and Nov 29-Dec 1st. The show itself showcases the latest in upcoming designs from Asian fashion houses as well as those designers working in Europe with Asian supplied materials and expertise.
The International nuptial and occasional wear show is held annually in June with the 2007 dates being June 2nd - 4th. Again the show is held in the Ifema center taking advantage of the golf, hotels and train links that the center provides.

Modelling in Spain
Recent headlines regarding the Madrid community government decision to to apply a BMI regulation to models appearing in Madrid fashion show has lead to a rather distorted perception of Madrid and Spain. This has been further compounded by the January 2007 decision to regulate the size of shop window maniquins. For an honest look at how modelling in Spain works check out
